the Spiral peace challenge

The Flames of Society

By Toby Clarke

Aged 20

Peace is burning, consciousness is burning,

Faith is burning,

morality is burning,

Lives are burning.

The spark that ignites the flames is hate,

It is ignorance,

And most of all

it is greed.

The flames need dampening,

They need to be put out.

For this to be done,

the water must be truth,

The water must be education,

The water must be compassion.

If the water hits the fire,

there will be a battle,

This battle can be overcome and we can achieve harmony,

The fireman must be you.

The Spiral Poetry for Peace Competition 2007 is now closed. Over 350 entries were received, and the winning poem will be used as the theme page for a new interactive online peace campaign designed by Bluhalo, one of UK's leading digital design and build agencies. The winning poem will be annouced on the 21st of September. In the meantime, check out these poems which we thought were worth mentioning. We will be uploading poems daily to this section, so come back often to read the poems and celebrate Peace through Poetry.
