Prayer for Peace

By Susan Howard

Over 22

You say “My peace I give to you.”

But then we just ignore your offer

and try to do things in our own strength;

instead of opening our hearts to all you have to give.

King of all creation,

you have given us the key.

It starts with “Love thy neighbour as thyself.”

A seed of love,

once thrown into the pond of life,

it cannot help but touch in ever

widening circles,

the hearts of us who yearn

to know the comfort of your love.

Lord what a simple truth you give us.

Why is it not plain to see?

That all we need to do is love,

and peace will surely follow.

The Spiral Poetry for Peace Competition 2007 is now closed. Over 350 entries were received, and the winning poem will be used as the theme page for a new interactive online peace campaign designed by Bluhalo, one of UK's leading digital design and build agencies. The winning poem will be annouced on the 21st of September. In the meantime, check out these poems which we thought were worth mentioning. We will be uploading poems daily to this section, so come back often to read the poems and celebrate Peace through Poetry.
