the Spiral peace challenge

Until . . .

by Stella Mortazavi

Age: over 22

Until we stop taking and learn how to give

There will never be peace in this land where we live

Until we stop killing others because of their race

And stop judging people by the colour of their face

Until we stop preaching religion and let people decide

What they want to believe in, faith should come from inside

Until we stop fighting wars which we really don’t need

What we spend on war, the whole world we could feed

Until we remove poverty and start helping the poor

We must be less greedy and realise that less is more

Until we can live next to our neighbours without taking their lands

And realise the fate of this world lies in all of our hands

Until we can say hate is truly a thing of the past

Only then can the peace we seek possibly last

Until we can look deep into our hearts and then find

Love and respect for the whole of mankind

So we must start planting the seeds of peace all around

Until peace in this world is finally found

And only then can we really begin to live

As we will have learned not to take, but to give.

The Spiral Poetry for Peace Competition 2007 is now closed. Over 350 entries were received, and the winning poem will be used as the theme page for a new interactive online peace campaign designed by Bluhalo, one of UK's leading digital design and build agencies. The winning poem will be annouced on the 21st of September. In the meantime, check out these poems which we thought were worth mentioning. We will be uploading poems daily to this section, so come back often to read the poems and celebrate Peace through Poetry.
