the Spiral peace challenge

One Voice

Pat Little

(over 22)

If I were you, and you were me, If we could swap for a day would it help us to see?

Would it help us to know where we are going wrong?

That this world is a place where we all belong.

If I were black, and you were white

Would it teach us to love and not to fight?

Would we see that it’s not the colour of our skin?

But what we have to give, what comes from within

If just for a day our life we could trade, Could I understand how you feel? Could you accept how I’m made?

If all of our anger could be combined

To fuel positive thoughts to help mankind,

Then all over the world, we could make a fresh start Just to speak with one voice and to love with one heart.

The Spiral Poetry for Peace Competition 2007 is now closed. Over 350 entries were received, and the winning poem will be used as the theme page for a new interactive online peace campaign designed by Bluhalo, one of UK's leading digital design and build agencies. The winning poem will be annouced on the 21st of September. In the meantime, check out these poems which we thought were worth mentioning. We will be uploading poems daily to this section, so come back often to read the poems and celebrate Peace through Poetry.
