| Stars in the sky, sparkling bright;
What kind of world will you shine on tonight?
Is there equality,
freedom of choice?
Someone to listen to each lonely voice.
Sympathy, kindness;
empathy too.
Acceptance of faith;
whether Gentile or Jew.
Food for the hungry;
warmth for the cold.
Rest for the weary;
care for the old.
Patience and tolerance;
absence of strife.
An end to the wars that plague all human life.
Or will you look down and see only pain?
And lives that are lived just for profit and gain.
Where pity is weakness and greed is the norm;
And society lives in the eye of the storm.
Where children are victims and the sick die alone,
And the marginalised call the gutter their home.
If you look down tonight and see only sorrow;
Tell me, what kind of world will you shine on tomorrow?
