the Spiral peace challenge

Summer Walk

By Paulina Ivanova

Aged 14

Set out at three,

Daisies at 5 minutes past.

Cows at half past,

Daisies at 2 miles,

Poppies at 3 miles,

Children playing at four.

Children crying at 6 miles

Detour – mine field, extra mile

Ruined village at 7 miles

Wasted lives at 7 miles

Poppies at 10.

Craters at half-way; morbid, beautiful scenery.

Forest

Field of white delicate graves at 10 miles.

Death at all miles,

Better turn back.

(Wish I could do the same with time)

For peace – we can only look ahead, make it ourselves, no turning back.

The Spiral Poetry for Peace Competition 2007 is now closed. Over 350 entries were received, and the winning poem will be used as the theme page for a new interactive online peace campaign designed by Bluhalo, one of UK's leading digital design and build agencies. The winning poem will be annouced on the 21st of September. In the meantime, check out these poems which we thought were worth mentioning. We will be uploading poems daily to this section, so come back often to read the poems and celebrate Peace through Poetry.
